Council of The Hundred

The Council of the Hundred, also known as the Saló de Cent, is a historic meeting place located within Barcelona City Hall (Casa de la Ciutat) in Plaça de Sant Jaume, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain. This Gothic-style chamber has served as the primary meeting space for the municipal government of Barcelona since its construction in the 14th century.

Meeting and Conference Facilities

• Saló de Cent (The Room of One Hundred)

• Capacity: The room can accommodate various events, including weddings, press conferences, and institutional gatherings. It is characterized by its diaphanous spaces and flat ceiling with alternating wooden beams and stone arches.
• Function: Originally used for the meetings of the Consell de Cent, it now hosts significant events such as the presentation of medals of honor, swearing-in of councillors, and commemorative events.
• Decorations: The room features damask illustrating the history of the City embroidered in velvet, satin, and gold with the coats of arms of the municipalities annexed to Barcelona. The floor is adorned with iconographic elements representing different city guilds that formed part of the Consell de Cent. The alabaster work on the front wall, designed by Enric Monserdà, is a masterpiece representing many historical moments of the City Hall.

• Carles Pi i Sunyer or Plenary Hall

• Capacity: This hall is used for plenary sessions of the Full Council, which holds its meetings on the last Friday of each month (except August).
• Function: It serves as the main meeting space for the Full Council, where important municipal policies are debated and decided.
• Decorations: The hall is characterized by its modern design and is equipped with a presidential table surrounded by 50 wooden seats, split into two blocks, and two galleries for the public and press.

• Saló de Cròniques (Hall of Chronicles)

• Capacity: This room is designed to accommodate smaller gatherings and events.
• Function: It is decorated with murals by Josep Maria Sert (1928), which change perspective depending on the angle of view. The room is used for press conferences, seminars, and other institutional events.

• Gothic Courtyard

• Capacity: The courtyard can accommodate various events and is often used for receptions and gatherings.
• Function: It is adorned with sculptures by artists such as Antoni Miró, Josep Llimona, Pablo Gargallo, Manolo Hugué, and Josep Maria Subirachs. The courtyard provides a serene and historic backdrop for events.

• Black Staircase

• Capacity: The staircase can accommodate small groups and is often used as a transition between the courtyard and the first floor.
• Function: It is made of black marble and features a sculpture of Josep Viladomat and an imposing mural by Miquel Valdrich.
