Dom Andreja Manfrede

Andrej Manfreda was an influential figure in the early 20th century, known for his strong advocacy for Slovene national rights. After attending various educational institutions, he became actively involved with the anti-fascist organization TIGR, where he served as president of the student society Adrija. His activism led to his arrest by Italian authorities in 1930, after which he endured several years in prison, facing health issues and harsh conditions. Despite his imprisonment, he remained committed to his beliefs, even joining the Communist Party of Italy while incarcerated. Manfreda was eventually released but continued his involvement in anti-fascist activities until his re-arrest in 1936. He died under mysterious circumstances while in a prison hospital, and posthumously, he was honored with memorials in his hometown, including a street and cultural center named after him.
