Kalemegdan Fortress

Kalemegdan Fortress is an ancient structure perched atop a clifflike ridge that overlooks the river, surrounded by lush park areas. Dating back to the 1st century, it has evolved from a Roman stronghold into a Byzantine castle, later becoming the medieval capital of Serbia, and eventually an Austrian/Ottoman artillery fortification.
