Located in the heart of County Waterford & open year-round, the world-renowned Mount Congreve Gardens are a haven for plant & history lovers alike as well as for those simply looking to relax in nature. Boasting one of the largest private collections of plants globally and is described as ‘A Great Garden of the World' the entire collection features plants from every continent.

Mount Congreve House, home to six generations of Congreves, was built in 1760 by the celebrated local architect John Roberts.

Inspired by Mr Lionel de Rothschilds exceptional garden at Exbury in Hampshire, with work beginning in the 1950s, Ambrose Congreve's passion for his spectacular garden is still evident today.

Ambrose Congreve created the Chinese Room in 1966 – 1969 by infusing his architectural and artistic vision with traditional Asian aesthetic principles, creating a remarkable space that is both contemporary and timeless. It is a “must-see” with its stunning 18th-century Chinese hand-painted wallpaper and rich parquet floor.

The Chinese Room in Mount Congreve House can accommodate parties of 10 to 120 guests. It is a stunning space where history, tradition and elegance come together in a spectacular way.

Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the room with natural light while Waterford Crystal chandeliers and lamps bestow a grand sense of occasion.

From intimate dining to grand banqueting, we'll create the ambience you desire with a host of personal and thoughtful touches to make the event one you and your guests will remember fondly. It is also a delightful space in which to enjoy a delicious traditional Afternoon Tea - a ritual that was enjoyed daily by Majorie and Ambrose Congreve.
