The upcoming Wagner-Kosmos festival in May 2025 will feature the premiere of "Götterdämmerung" along with two cycles of Richard Wagner's epic tetralogy, "Der Ring des Nibelungen," directed by the acclaimed Peter Konwitschny. This marks the conclusion of a significant project that has influenced the Dortmund Opera over the past four seasons and contributed to its increased recognition and numerous awards. Historically, the festival has placed Wagner's work in the context of its time, often juxtaposing it with works by predecessors, contemporaries, and successors. However, this year's celebration will present Wagner's works in their pure form. Additionally, the festival commemorates the 80th birthday of the distinguished director Peter Konwitschny, making it a special occasion for both the opera and its audience.
